Uh oh! It seems I was raised poor and didn’t realize it. Lol. I relate to everything you mentioned, especially the powdered milk which my mom mixed with regular milk to stretch it. My mom actually drove to Mexico with her friends to score a 100 lb sack of sugar because it was cheap and the US was faking a sugar shortage. I sewed most of my clothes, which actually impressed my friends. I actually lived in a neighborhood directly behind a Kmart , and consider Kmart as a very influential character in my life. So many stories and life lessons learned in the aisles and even raiding the dumpster behind the store where my friends and I dug for treasures. It was like Kmart was our daycare center. And one last thing: Kmart popcorn 🍿 was and always will be the best in my opinion. I miss it. 😢 Great piece. Made me follow you :). Write on!
