Such a great and poignant piece. Write on. Here’s one for you. I literally live walking distance to my doctors’ offices and a huge hospital that was taken over by a corporation, Providence. Lately they’ve refused to negotiate with insurance providers who offer an HMO and only take PPO. All the big insurance providers have been unsuccessful in cracking Providence’s nuts. This has left thousands of people scrambling to find primary care docs and specialists and a hospital. I had to change insurance twice because of this but now no providers take my insurance. So, we’re in a desert too, but this is in the middle of highly populated Orange County, CA about 10 minutes from Disneyland. It’s a small healthcare world after all. Good luck to us all.
