I've shared a fascination for hominy my entire life too. I would see it on the shelf, like that big can you brought to the food drive, and wonder why my mom didn't buy it. I was so curious about what it was and why it was so big and did the ears of corn/hominy grow in giant fields. I would ask my mom why she doesn't buy it and she would say, "Oh, that's just big corn." I would say, "So, I like corn." She was not swayed into buying it. As an adult, I find myself wondering why I don't use it more. Every time my eyes find it on the shelf at the grocery store I still am fascinated. When I finally got to taste it for the first time I did think it was bland, but so are most things that "stretch" a meal like potato, tofu, etc. Your article has inspired me to let that hominy out to play for a while. I've had it in soups but I'm going to try it everywhere. Oh, and your article made me hungry too. :) Enjoyed the ride. Great piece. Write on!
