I work for an HRT specialist doctor. There is so much great research out there that supports HRT and its health benefits. Great studies debunking the 2002 WHI (Women’s Health Initiative) study that used fear to stop 70% of women from HRT. I HIGHLY recommend the book, Estrogen Matters. Also supplement the research with studies about testosterone, and pellet therapy, and bio-available (same as identical- just a better term) hormones. A D.O. or Functional Medicine doc is a good fit. I’ve had cancer (hysterectomy surgery to remove it), chemo, radiation and I’m 100% comfortable with my decision to do HRT. The research is there to make an informed decision that brings so much peace to this stressful situation. We must be our own health advocate. Quality of life is paramount. Every body is different and that means different outcomes and potential side effects. Getting the orchestration of estrogen, testosterone, progesterone fine tuned can be challenging. Some use all 3, some just One of the 3, and some 2 of the 3. A great doctor by your side is crucial. As we move toward individualized medicine and precision dosing, things should improve. Lots of research on Women’s issues is greatly needed.
