Coronavirus Tales: I Went in For Bacon and Came Out with So Much More

Cravings lead us down many paths. Some get satisfied and sometimes we must hurdle roadblocks and double down our mojo to cross the finish line…and on Friday that was the grocery store line.

My appetite for a BLT and my hunger for understanding were peaked when I was out doing my day and decided to make some bacon a reality. I went. I saw. I entered the first store at my own risk. Predictably, yet still astonishing, the vibe in the store was screaming, “It’s the end of the world as we know it!”

For a split second I absorbed the vibe and realized that in my final earthly hours I was focused on scoring uncured bacon and grass fed butter at reasonable prices. Oh the shame. I shook it off and headed for the refrigerator case, got my bacon and butter, noted the wide gaps of missing cheese and worried a little about people’s digestive upset from consuming so much cheese. Then, I turned toward the checkout line.

It was obvious this store had no inkling of the magnitude these sea of humanity tidal waves would inflict on their employee’s shift work and shelf stocking. Who would? There are no two-day workshops offered at a local hotel conference room for this stuff.
