Beautifully written. Whenever I went to West Beach in the 80s in Laguna Beach, CA (known for its thriving gay community) we would sit back and watch as unknowing families would walk around a rock formation and into the cove-like area and see all of us intermingling. It was hilarious really. And you can only imagine the surprise when an artist was making a sand sculpture of 2 men intertwined. I witnessed them covering their kids eyes as their mouths flopped open. It was our safe place and we felt no shame or remorse. I bet their hotel concierge didn’t get a tip for the suggestion to walk the beach and explore. Good times. Great piece. Made me follow you. Write on!
