As we speak I’ve got a circa 1978 refrigerator from a dead relative in my garage running like a champ, while we’ve replaced the recent model in the house 3 times in 15 years. Obviously, the planned obsolescence thing hit big and bold in the 2000s. Remember the term, “Solid State,” that meant built to last? It’s extinct now and I miss it every time I cuss when something fails 2 days after the 3-year warranty expires. Car parts, pool equipment, electrical stuff all fizzle into garbage heaps.
